The Sr. Communications Specialist reports to the Manager of Advancement Communications, and is responsible for creating, implementing, and assessing targeted communications, solicitations, and direct marketing strategies for key IA internal and external audiences, including special constituencies such as annual donors, parents, young and graduate alumni, reunion classes, corporate partners, students, and other identified audiences. The Senior Communications Specialist supports all web-related projects for Institute Advancement philanthropic efforts for annual donors, which may include stewardship and donor relations-related writing and key projects.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field such as journalism, communications, or public relations
5 years of directly related professional experience in a comparable setting
Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
Experience in Higher Education highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated skill in writing content for a variety of audiences and a number of different channels, including email solicitations, web content, social media campaigns, and marketing collateral
Must be proactive and able to work without supervision
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail
Ability to manage several projects from beginning to end with minimal supervision
Ability to work quickly, flexibly, cooperatively and independently in a pro-active, customer-service oriented environment
Demonstrated communication planning skills and ability to promote brands
Demonstrated influential communication style and ability to strategize and lead others
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast paced, rapidly changing environment and meet established goals and objectives
Shift: Business hours; weekends or evening occasionally required
Expected hiring range: $61,000 - $65,000 per year
The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
