About this role

Company Description
Iconiq Insurance Services is a technology-enabled Managing General Agent focused on commercial property insurance for older, historic, and architecturally significant buildings.

Iconiq combines experienced commercial property underwriting with advanced building-condition data, inspections, property valuation tools, and AI-assisted risk analysis to evaluate risks that are often underserved by traditional insurance markets.

We work closely with wholesale brokers, carrier partners, and other insurance stakeholders to deliver specialized property insurance solutions supported by disciplined underwriting and modern technology. As an early-stage MGA, Iconiq offers team members the opportunity to help shape underwriting strategy, processes, technology, and portfolio development as the program grows.

Role Description
The Senior Commercial Property Underwriter is a full-time, remote position responsible for underwriting commercial property risks from submission through quote, bind, and renewal.

The Senior Underwriter will evaluate property exposures, determine eligibility within Iconiq's underwriting guidelines, establish appropriate pricing, deductibles, limits, terms, conditions, and coverage, and maintain well-supported underwriting files.

This role will work directly with wholesale brokers and will have meaningful responsibility for risk selection and portfolio performance. The Senior Underwriter will also collaborate with Iconiq's actuarial, claims, inspection, and technology teams and help mentor junior underwriting staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Underwrite new and renewal commercial property business within established authority and underwriting guidelines.
  • Review submissions, COPE information, loss history, property valuations, inspection reports, building-condition data, and third-party risk information.
  • Determine appropriate pricing, deductibles, limits, terms, conditions, exclusions, and coverage structures.
  • Manage the underwriting process from initial submission through rate, quote, bind, endorsement, and renewal.
  • Communicate directly with wholesale brokers regarding submissions, underwriting requirements, coverage terms, and risk-improvement considerations.
  • Review and apply commercial property policy forms and endorsements, including AAIS, ISO, and manuscript forms.
  • Use property valuation, hazard, geospatial, inspection, and AI-assisted underwriting tools to support underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, concentrations, and emerging underwriting issues.
  • Work with actuarial, claims, carrier, and technology teams to refine underwriting guidelines, pricing, tools, and workflows.
  • Mentor junior underwriting staff and help develop consistent underwriting standards and documentation.
  • Contribute to product development and the continued growth of Iconiq's commercial property program.

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications
  • Several years of commercial property underwriting experience, preferably within an MGA, E&S carrier, specialty insurer, or wholesale-focused underwriting organization.
  • Demonstrated experience independently evaluating, pricing, quoting, and binding commercial property risks.
